At Bushin Kan Dojo of Richmond, we feature Shorin-Ken Karatedo, Jujutsu and focus on practical defensive skills. Shorin-Ken Karatedo evolved from Okinawan Te, Japanese Kenpo, and Goju-Ryu and incorporates skills and knowledge refined from the classical Japanese martial arts.
Starting at the age of 7, student's training is comprehensive and dynamic basic physical skills curriculum includes strikes, kicks, blocks, escapes, grappling, throws, ground maneuvers, joint locks, holds, sweeps, break-falls, and defensive options. Students are exposed to theories, tactics, skills, and methods tested and evolved by centuries of use and continually adapted to meet modern needs and contingencies. Students are aiming to build optimal mind, body, spirit and defensive skills at all times.
As students progress, more advanced techniques are introduced along with increased understanding of their application. Karatedo rank and colored belts are awarded to students who successfully demonstrate the technical skill level, appropriate mindset, and leadership developments for advancement. Advanced students are afforded the opportunity to practice select Okinawan Kobudo weapons.
Our comprehensive discipline is Muso Chishin Ryu Heiho which includes the martial arts of Kenjustsu, Iaido, Battojutsu, Jujutsu, Judo, Aikijujutsu, Karatedo, Goshinjutsu, and Kobudo.
